Quilters For the Heart
Quilters For the Heart is the PVQ Guild’s program focused on community service. Members meet monthly to cut fabric, piece and sew quilt tops of various sizes and designs – from baby quilts and lap quilts for nursing home use to fun quilts for teens. Simple patterns and techniques are used to make the best use of our time. Fabric donations are encouraged through contests where members may win fabric strips or fat quarters. Kits are also available for members to take home and return when completed. The Snuggle Fund collects cash donations that support purchases of batting, backing and quilting services. Education is also a component of these meetings as new techniques are often presented and initially used in these quilts. Agencies benefitting from our quilting include CASA, the Shelter for Battered Adults, nursing homes, the Assurance Home, and even individuals when there is a need. Over 250 quilts and other items have been donated in recent years.
In 2015 the Pecos Valley Quilters donated 91 quilts to various local organizations:
CASA received 43 quilts for children in foster care.
Habitat for Humanity received 10 quilts to welcome two families to their new homes
PVP Celebration received 2 quilts to help raise funds
Assurance Home received 16 quilts for the children in their care
Boys Ranch received 12 quilts for the boys
James Ranch received 8 quilts for the children in their care
Every year QFTH gives out quilts to these organizations as well as families that have had a disaster strike such as a fire or flood. If your organization is in need of quilts, please contact Krisann at Sew Easy Sewing 575-623-3774 and she will get your contact information and details to the guild.
